Glow El Wire Short Length Lightweight Long Life?

Post by preplayer »

Hi. I am interested in using El Wire (https://www.adafruit.com/products/410) to add some light to a Pinewood Derby car. The car has strict size and weight restrictions - kids must use a provided wood block (2.75" x 5") to shape into a car and total weight cannot exceed 141.5 grams. I was wondering what to expect if I cut the wire down to a ~15 inch length to wrap the border of the car, and powered the wire from a CR2032 battery - would it glow at all and if so would it last for 4 hours?

Thanks.

To make the wire glow, you need about 100 volts of AC. So just a battery won't do it. You need an inverter. This is the smallest inverter we know of: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1350
