RPi battery low voltage shutdown

Post by JJR2 »

I'm running a RPi-2B from an 18V drill battery using a UBEC. I'm looking for a reasonable solution to protect the battery and RPi from low voltage due to battery discharge. I have worked out how to detect the low voltage condition using an common ADC and voltage divider or maybe the Adafruit INA219 breakout, so triggering a safe RPi "shutdown now" seems pretty straightforward.
The bigger problem is to shutdown the battery discharge after the RPi quits. There is a lot of traffic on the Internet on the subject, but all of it seems to involve bucketfuls of parts, e.g. P- and N-channel mosfets back-to-back to latch the system on or off, etc. I could probably use a NC relay, but it needs to be triggered ~20 secs after the RPi shuts down, Is there a simple, preferrably prebuilt, solution?

I'm afraid we don't have anything like that.
