What battery should I use?

Hi,

I'm building a project that uses two 12v solenoids valves, two 12v air pumps, and an Arduino. I need the project to be portable, so obviously a battery is necessary. What type of battery should I use for this and what specifications should it have?

You need to find the amount of power you need (total amps) and how long you want this to run then you will have to find a 12 volt source that can supply that. Give us more details on the project and we can be more precise.

Each pump .2A and each valve is .167A. Since there are two of each, there would be a total of .734A (Not accounting for the Arduino Mega). The pumps and valves will only be used in short bursts, so I'd like at least 30 minutes of continuous use.

You could use 8 alkaline or 12 NiMH AA or C batteries to get 12 volts.
