PowerBoost 500 Battery Protection

Post by WalterClark »

An answer to a previous post on exhausting a LiPo through a PowerBoost 500 was . . .
"There are still paths for current to flow though, and the LiPo can discharge more slowly through those."
Is there a reason you didn't ground the enable pin when the voltage gets below 3.0 V so that it is completely protected against over discharge?

The PowerBoost is not a dedicated LiPo boost circuit. It is designed to work with a variety of power sources as noted in the product description:
This little DC/DC boost converter module can run from 1.8V batteries or higher, and convert that voltage to 5.2V DC for running your 5V projects.
However, all of the LiPo cells we carry have internal protection circuits to prevent over-discharge, so such a circuit in the PowerBoost would be redundant.
