Sound reactive neopixel peace pendant - neopixel reacting to

Post by betsymac »

Hi there, I have students creating a project based off of the sound reactive neopixel peace pendant https://learn.adafruit.com/sound-reacti ... t/assembly and we wired it the same way as in the model, except
  • we did not use the battery charger
we used the mic with gain and the other option, but only wired the out port as shown in the directions
The code loads into the gemma fine, but the lights don't seem to respond to sound, instead they turn on when we touch the metal on the gemma/components, specifically the ground.

Ideas?

You have a wiring problem. Please post clear, detailed pictures of your wiring and setup.

[url]Hi there,
My student didn't get super accurate images, so I asked him to describe the wiring:
Vout on Gemma to 5V Neopixel
Gnd on Gemma to Gnd on Neopixel and Grn on microphone
D2 on Gemma to Out on microphone
D0 on Gemma to D1 on Neopixel
3V on Gemma VDD on microphone

Here's a folder of the pictures he took.
Thanks!

Wow. Your wiring looks OK. I can't see the solders on the Gemma. All I can think is that you have a bad solder someplace, probably on the grounds. Other than that, I'm coming up empty. The mic should work the way you have it, although I think I might wire gain to 3v to cut it down to 40dB
