VCA not working, wrong voltages at BA6110

Postby nilsomat » Tue Feb 15, 2011 4:03 am

Hello everybody,

i just finished the VCA section of my first x0xb0x, but something is not right: i have no output.
All the other sections tested all right, i double checked component values and orientation in th VCA, also the solder joints seem to be all right.
When measuring BA6110 i get these (faulty) dc voltage readings:

1: 5.33
2: 5.33
3: 0
4: 0.13 (should be 0)
5: 0
6: 0.66 (should be 5.3)
7: 0.66 (should be 5.3)
8: 0.72 (should be 5.3)
9: 12

I would really appreciate some hints where to search from here, as i have no real idea where to start.
By the way the (excellent!) kit was purchased from substyler, very high quality!
Thanks very much!

Thanks aminoacid!

The voltages are:

R127 "long end": 3.71 "short end": 0.68
R128 "long end": 0.68 "short end": 5.14
R129 "long end": 5.14 "short end": 3.71
R162 "long end": 5.14 "short end": 5.32

I didn't apply control voltage to R90 while testing, is that all right?

check that its in the right socket
and in the right orientation

then turn the power off
and measure the resistance
between pin5 and pin6
between pin8 and pin7
betweeen pin6 and ground
between pin8 and ground

and see if theres something wrong with one of thoose resistors especialy r129.

reheat the solderings and check the colour codes of thoose resistors.

Thanks guest, also!

It is in the left socket (IC15B) with the notch facing north (between q1 and q31).
The resistors have the right value, and the solderings look good, but i will reheat them anyways.

resistance
between pin5 and pin6: 62 k
between pin8 and pin7: 78.7 k
betweeen pin6 and ground: 61.9 k
between pin8 and ground: 19.3 k

its looking like a bad chip

try shorting a wire from pin4 to ground
and see what the voltages become

if the pin6 voltage doesnt change much
then the chip is bad

I resoldered all joints from the VCA, no change. Connected pin4 to ground, voltage at pin 6 stays at 0.66v.
Since the chip is most likely broken, i will desolder the chip and order a new one, until it arrives i will solder the rest of the box :)
I will give an update with the new chip installed.
Thanks a lot to aminoacid and guest for the help!!!
