Use of American/Australian Power supplies

Postby efand1 » Mon Jan 03, 2011 6:19 pm

I have purchased a Hakko 936. I live in Australia, and am concerned about the power supply. Your website says "for use in 120V countries only", but the instruction manual doesn't say anything. Do I need a stepdown transformer from 240 to 120V, or can I just use a plug adapter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sadly, the power supply is for 120VAC only, you'll need to get a transformer that can handle 60W

Hi.
A similar question to the one above: I live in Australia, only I have bought the Monochron clock kit. Should I just buy a standard US-to-Australian power converter or is there a simpler way?

Thanks,

the clock kit power supplies are for any country, you just need a plug adapter

So does that mean I can just use any sort of adapter that fits? Or does it have to have certain specifications? (I'm rather new to all of this...)

yes a plug adapter
it adapts the plug so you can plug it into the wall

Use a legal one, there are many around that are the same as are sold on eBay for 99c that do not meet AS/NZS3112 standards for the plug side, and dont pass the needed finger tests for the socket side, and dont even hold the plug properly.

Look for ones with an approval number on them, dont get them from the $2 shop since those ones are not legal to use.

Also, if you are thinking of using the clock in a workspace the US plug will be a problem with OSH compliance since they are so inherently unsafe.

Okay, thanks guys. I ended up just bringing it in to Jaycar and they sold me a replacement (albeit a rather expensive one!)
