XBee stops listening after +++

Postby joe61 » Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:27 am

I'm trying to get a couple of the Series 2 modules working with the XBee adapter. I'm guessing the board was soldered correctly because X-CTU was able to upgrade the firmware, and I can connect to it with a serial connection from my Mac and Linux box ok.

I start off by typing +++ and get the expected "OK" back, but then nothing. When I type "ATID" no response. Clues would be welcome.

I did some searching but didn't see another thread that addressed this. Sorry if I missed it.

Thanks

Are you sure the series 2 modules work with the adapter? I don't think adafruit supports series 2

Have you updated the firmware and tested them with X-CTU?

Yes, I've updated the firmware with X-CTU. That's what made me think the board was ok, because the update appeared to go well.

However, I just tried swapping adapter boards, and the XBee that wasn't working now works, so I messed up something when I was putting it together. My apologies.

How long are you waiting between getting the OK and typing the next command? Command mode times out by default after 10 seconds. The AFI adapter works fine with my S2 modules.

I'm aware of the timeout, but it turns out that's not the problem. I have two XBees and two of the Adafruit adapters. One works as expected, the other one wasn't. I apparently used too much solder when putting in the headers that the XBee plugs into. I used some solder wick to pull out excess solder and it's working fine now.

So, my mistake. I was hoping that was it because this looks to be the best XBee adapter I've seen. Anyway, sorry for the bother.

No bother, it's always good when someone can learn from mistakes and it will help others in the same situation. As you progress you will get better.
