Inductor - can I use one greater than 10uH? - Mintyboost v3

Postby lee321987 » Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:16 pm

Is it ok to use an inductor greater than 10uH?
Perhaps it's ok to go a litter over, but not more than <insert value>?

Thanks. I read it, but it doesn't answer my question.
Assume the greater-henry inductor has equivalent resistance to the official one.

The inductor is part of a tuned circuit. Any significant variation is likely to decrease efficiency - if it works at all. You will note that half of the "process" page is about prototyping and testing. If you want to swap parts, be prepared to do a lot of testing and tweaking on your own before you get it right.

As it says in the FAQ:
Most components cannot be swapped, and must be used as indicated, even if they're difficult to find in your area. All documentation is on the site.

I can't provide any support or help to 'DIYer's because of the time and difficulty in debugging these projects. Please endeavor to work out your project on your own.

I noticed that the parts list for the MintyBoost (v2 & 3) specifies a 10uH inductor. However, the parts link to Digi-Key shows a 2200uH part. Which one is correct? I'm assuming the 10uH part is indeed the part in the kit, but can you clarify?

The partfinder page link actually shows two inductors, 2200uH and 10uH. The 10uH is highlighted, but it is easy to overlook because there is no image.

I fixed the missing image.

The image I used was that of the RLB9012, taken from the manufacturer website, so there shouldn't be copyright concerns.

Note I did hotlink the image, which probably is not a good long term idea... :-)
