firmware stability

Postby por.no » Thu Jun 09, 2011 3:26 am

hello everyone. I have a problem, which has happened twice so far, and i really dont want it to happen again if it can be avoided. That is, I spent the last 6 months or so practicing to introduce my xoxbox as a 3rd sound source while i'm djing(the other 2 sources being record players).I bought a soundbite micro (sampler) which converts the audio signal into midi which in turn syncs the xoxbox up to the same beat as the records. sounds great, that phatt acid sound incorporated into what i'm playing is perfect. however....i've only done this three times in front of an audience, and 2 of those times, the xoxbox shat itself, had a mind of its own,. would start sparatically, and stop randomly. I thought it might be the sampler playing up, that that was working fine. Afterwards i reloaded the firmware...bingo!!!, worked like a dream, so i can safely assume the firmware is instable. the question is, is there a way to stabilise the firmware. I really dont want to have to reload it everytime i play. The xoxbox i got 2nd hand, but the processor i then bought new from xoxboxshop in germany for excatly that reason, that it would be safe and reliable. the xoxbox did fall from about 1 metre high once (ok, twice, and that was between the 2 times it didnt work) and i had to replace the (78x05) 5V voltage regulator, but aprt from that, no damage.
any suggestions???

have you had any problems with it
since you put in the new micro
its possible the old micro wasnt programmed right

did the old micro have markings on it
saying who manufactured it

when you say micro, do you mean the processor or the soundbite micro.
the soundbite micro is a seperate hardware device that i plug into the midi sockets. and since i've had the new processor, yes there have been problems, the last one being on tuesday night. so basically its happened with both the old and new processor.

ok, so you meant the "ATmega162 microcontroller"
problems before and after

can you send some midi data to the x0x
from another source
and see if it messes up
perhaps slave it to another synth for a while
and listen for the pattern being off an hour later

is the 7805 getting hot at all after being on for a while

what value of led resistor do you have installed

when it is failing
does it seem that it is resetting itself
or does it just stop playing the pattern
and then resume playing the same pattern

ok
i think i've fixed the problem by replacing the power supply board with one from an xox i was going to/will incorporate into a modular synthie. It seems to be stronger, but i'll do more testing duing the week.
thanx for the advice and i'll let you know.
