Is there a decent 909 clone?

Well? Is there any plan by the wonderful geniuses on this site to make one? Or does an acceptable one already exist? I for one would be leaping on it straight away!

Ah, cheers mate. Just looked at the 9090 one but it says it doesn't have a sequencer so i'm assuming that means you can't program in your own loops? Other than that, it's exactly what i'm looking for. I.e a Kit, like the x0xb0x.

Actually the TR-9090 isn't a kit. You can only buy a set of (3) PCBs and pre-programmed chips. The rest of the components you have to source yourself.

I have built both a TR-9090 and a self sourced x0xb0x, and the 9090 is a significantly more involved project. There is a lot more components to source and solder, and less available documentation. Also the community of builders is much smaller and less active, so if you run into problems you might find it tough... It all depends on your skill level I guess.

The 9090 does not include a sequencer, but there is an open source sequencer project (developed for a clone of the TR-808) which could be adapted relatively easily: http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_808.html

Nice one mate. I may put this on the back burner for a while as i'm not sure if my skill level is high enough but i appreciate the info. May give it a go in a year or so. I assume there's a full list of parts though an I made my x0xb0x self sourced but I definitely owe a lot to the people on this forum when it came down to trouble shooting. Think i'll try building an x0xi0 1st an see how I get on with that.

Hey all,
As there are still quite a few people starting to build the 9090, I would like to help out with organizing a possible groupbuy.

If there are enough people I could make a few big orders with the different suppliers and send you a complete package with all the components or just the rare parts.
I am not doing this to make money at all, I just want to facilitate the new builders. So I will not advance money and will only send what is paid for.

I have shared a spreadsheet, you will also find a few columns concerning my sequencer part, don't worry about those columns as I have not yet finished the sequencer. That will be done at the end of December.

I have finished sourcing all the components for the 9090.
The total cost of all the components except the pot meters and the mains transformer is
317,00 Euro's +
19,00 Euro's for the potmeters (only 4 sets available!)
17,90 transport fee.

you can deduct 65,00 Euro's if you do not need the 9090 boards with the PIC and PROM's

I have received all the prices for the components to populate the 9090 boards, but without transfo, without potmeters, without frontpanel, without MB909 sequencer.

The price for all the components including the rare parts= 250,00 Euro
The price for the 9090 boards with PIC's and PROM= 65,00 Euro
The price for postal charges= 17,95,00 Euro

I am still looking for an affordable potmeter set, as soon as I have sourced, I will post the price on this page.

I will close the groupbuy on the 14th of February then I'll order all the components and make the packages. Please be aware that making the packages is a huge job that takes a few weeks.

I have managed to get more or less the same components like the last groupbuy, which means that the original transistors and rare parts are in the kit. Again I have tried to have the highest amount of quality possible for this price. The IC sockets are of a really good quality (not the GS type), all the resistors are 1% tolerance, original 2,5% polystyrene capacitors are used, most other caps have tolerances of 5% and 10%, even the electrolytic caps are high temp, high quality, etc, etc...

I only have two sets of the SA 798 G transistors for the 9090 bulkorder of July (which will be closed in about 10 days) The 9090 works perfect with the 1115 transistors as a replacement for the 4 SA 798's, but original is original! (PS: my 9090 is working fine without the SA 798's).
