Alternative media for Thermal Printer?

Postby Wirelessmonk » Wed Dec 07, 2011 6:09 pm

Search didn't produce any references, so I do apologize if this has been brought up.
Has anyone had any success sourcing adhesive backed paper for the thermal printer?
I'd like to think I'm just hungry for a hackable label maker, but you can't deny this would also be a cheaper solution.
Something I'm sure Adafruit has looked into, or is actively doing so.

I've seen the device pop up elsewhere. (Though never in a 'starter kit.' One more reason I adore Adafruit.com) Every retailer offers only the one roll of 50' tape.

Anyone? Bueller?

it might work, but we havent tested it. it might be too thick to go thru the rollers (and theres no way for us to measure how thick the roller distance is)? if you figure out something please let us know!

I was thinking the same thing and found http://www.possupply.com/2-25-x-1-25-Direct-Thermal-Label-1-135-labels-roll-12-rolls-case.
I know the roll won't fit into the little printer, but wondered if it could feed in from the outside with "modification" to the printer.

Edit: I also see now that the 2.25 dimension looks to be the label width and not the roll width so these may not work. I'll be interested to see what others find!

I have successfully printed the test print out on Thermal Label printer tape. It came out a little on the light side, so there may be some adjustments to be made. I had to cut my roll down to the 2.25 width from whatever it was (I think the roll I have is ~2.8) More information as I have the time to test.
