Compileing Question..?? please explain

Postby Lanmasterd » Sat Mar 10, 2007 4:32 pm

Hey every one hey ladyada.
ok i got some question about the program compiling part.. im not to good at this avr stuff yet.. im a fast study.. I have a Usb AVRISP mkII with newest firmware version.
now i have studio avr 4 and i have winavr and i have secure crt full version in all of them..

ok problem one ..

in the make section in the tuning bit. ladyada says
Burn the fuses, then compile the code with the LED test uncommented.

ok now i need a walk through for this from someone who has done one already. i have the firmware downloaded from the download section. wat do i do with them..?

i would really like any help that can be offered.
i hope i will get a few responces to this post..

lanmasterD,

we might be the last to be working on the first revision WB so let's stick together. I am gonna be tackling the AVR programming myself shortly. Just have to figure out why my 25V booster is only giving 8V.

There is much forum info for the AVR on the ATMEL site and AVRfreaks ... burning fuses seems to mean the initial bootloading. And I was told to use the default settings for the ATmega88chip. Never done it yet tho but it seems a click away when you plug the ISP with AVRstudio running and select the ATmega88, go to fuses tab etc.

Tell me how you did it when you do.

I am following schematic and the PDF placement diagrams + sometimes the images from the make file (altho I have found CAPS where RESISTORS should be (ie R1 and R2) in the power section, wierd man !).

There is too many subtle tweaks that I made an engineer friend who is helping me.

ciao !!

well when i was doing my 25v booster i only had a problem cos i forgot to solder one pin side oops. but worked perfect once i was finished. if ur only getting 8v id say its either one of 3 problems
one= the booster is faulty..
two= a change u have made somewhere is interfering
or three= maybe u placed a cap or resister in the wrong place..
ive been working off the placements. rather then the schematic. and ive had no problem so far really..
are u going with the AAA or lit ion in ur WB rev 1. im going with Lit ion poly and in stead of the 1.4amh im using a 1.8amh it should last longer when im in the cell fone mode.,
go u have any links to info on the forum that i can look at..?

I am also building the first version of WB. I recently got my AVR programmer. It's a AVRISP mkII from DigiKey. I can't get my AVR to communicate. I too would like some more explanation on how to use the firmware provided.

Thanks for any replies

AVR ISP

Postby hahahehihoha » Wed Mar 28, 2007 7:37 pm

I got the same programmer and when I tried hooking it up on several computers with the right software/driver setups and voltage going to the ISP pins I got this error:

reverse the connection (orange blinking light)

so I did reverse the connection and it continued to say

reverse the connection (orange blinking light)

Make sure you reverse the connection on the target and restart it

Make sure that you place your microcontroller correctly on the PCB: the orientation of the chip could be the problem if you are getting an orange blinking light before and after reversing the target connection - as I did. I placed it by looking at the Eagle board file (the bottom side (blue) is all reversed) and neglected to invert it - OOPS. No worries, hot air got it up and it worked like a charm once it was placed correctly.
If still have a problem, you can use a toothbrush to clean the residual solder paste from around the chips
Cheers

Made some progress, I was finally able to get the AVR studio software to communicate with the AVRisp mkII.
First install AVR Vizualizer LCD Visualizer v1.0.
Second AVR Studio 4.13 b528
Third let Windows XP install the new device.

Next, I need to figure out how to "burn the fuses" :( :D
