EL Tape scribe line?

Postby flapjacky » Thu Feb 09, 2012 12:24 am

Hi, I'm trying to cut and reattach el tape.

I was wondering if your el tape has a scribe line? I was hoping to use copper tape and attach it on the two sides separated by the scribe line. I received my el tape and peeled back the laminate, but I am confused where I would need to attach the copper tape. Is it on one side or is it on both front and back of the tape?

I know in past posts you have said that it is almost impossible to cut and re-attach el tape.. but I am willing to do whatever it takes, so please do not tell me that it is impossible. I would like some help.. not discouragement. Thank you so much in advance. Your website and store are both wonderful!

I'm not sure about the scribe line. I know that some tapes have them. With a multimeter, if you measure a very high (or infinite) resistance between the two sides of the tape, then you should be good to go.

This is a picture of someone who was successful in connecting their EL tape with just copper tape. On your EL tape, there is only two white lines and the grey conductive line. I don't know if I have access to a multimeter.

Okay.. I guess I will ask another question.. On the grey back of the EL Tape that you guys sell, is there a layer on top that is nonconductive? I am wondering if I should scrape off this layer to make a better connection. Please answer asap! Thanks.
