Monochron electronics deep-dive?

Can anyone point me to a good deep-dive or lower-level discussion on the Monochron kit? I checked out the homepage on http://www.ladyada.net/make/monochron/index.html but I couldn't find any lower-level details.

I'd like to learn some elec mechanics lessons from this build, but I'm not really finding that type of walkthrough. I'd like to see details about how the smaller bypass capacitors are used to normalize the DC current since the fluctuation are detrimental to the IC.. or something like that....

Does anyone know of any blog post or white paper on this kit?
