Get more from your VCO!

Hi Vatos locos.

Did you thought about getting a Triangle wave out of your x0x...? now you can
i found this cool thing from http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/
you just take the output signal from the i/o audio output jack, switch to saw wave and it will turn to triangle wave.
here is the schematics..


i did a stripboard layout, so if someone here want to verify my layout that would be great (its my first layout ever made, its ugly i know but i dont care, I LOVE IT ).
(if i have any mistakes in the layout please let me know, i'll fix them ASAP and upload the layout again)

ehm, the x0x has something like a triangle already
it's part of the square-wave shaper, C11


but this is not going to be interesting for the filter, since it doesn't have sharp edges (aka high-freq harmonics) it won't make the filter resonate as with the sawtooth or square

there are some mistakes in the stripboard layout

c3 and c5 should be in parallel with c4 and c6
the 12v and -12v lines need to be run up to the opamp
r8 should go to -12v

also note that the frequency out of this
will be half of what you put in
so your x0x will drop an octave

before i sold my sh101 i did a triangle mod it was f***** amazing!
when it went to the vcf section it was sound good.

can i use it some how from J4 (with extra components i guess) ?

i was mistaken about the frequency halving
it should be fine

the corrections are correct

i would suggest trying to run it the following way
connect x0x 12v to circuit +12v
connet x0x 5.333v to circuit gnd
connect x0x gnd to circuit -12v

its interesting what your saying here...mmm...can i try doing that to any module that runs on (+)12V / GND / (-12V) ? i mean from J4..

another professorial question...
lets say i take only the x0x power supply circuit how many modules i can run with it if my wall wart is 9V AC~AC 1A?
lets say i wanna run
2 X VCO'S modules
2 X ADSR
1 X VCF
1 X VCA
2 X LFO
when i think about it i think i know the answer...
its depends on each module mA, right?

you really cant run too much off the x0x powersupply
as its only just an opamp supplying the power
so probably 20ma max

Now it's getting interesting

I have a regulated 12V from MFOS, i know that I can run few modules with it.

I want to run the x0x vco with it, I know it's possible I'm just not sure how to do it.
x0x vco needs 5.33V and 12V and GND.
I think I will need 7805 regulator with trimmer to get 5.33, am I right?
I know I will need more parts I'm not sure which parts.
Can you advice me please?
Maybe can you help with a small schem?

i would just use an external powersupply
and not change the x0x powersupply
i think part of the sound comes from the weak powersupply
at least the 12v rail

this is what i want to do, but as i understand the VCO needs 2 kind of V.
1 - 5.33V
2 - 12V

how can i get them both with 12V power supply?

if you have a 12v source
you can put another voltage regulator after it
as you suggested a 7805
and adjust it to make 5.333v
although if youre not altering the power for the x0x vco
then it doesnt need to be 5.333v
and just 5v will be fine

guest, i want to make a synth that based on the x0x vco's, i love this vco, its sounds amazing.
i want to be able to control the vco with cv.

and adjust it to make 5.333v

how to i adjust it to 5.33V?
maybe its better to get 7806 and then trim it with a trimmer to 5.33?
is that a good idea?

if you are using an external cv
then you wont need exactly 5.333v
you can just retune it for 5v

but if you want to have 5.333v
then i would use an lm317
it is designed to be adjustable
