TTL Serial JPEG Camera Power

The product page has this lil' guy spec'd at DC +5V but communicates by serial at 3.3V.

I took a quick look at the board, but figured I'd ask here too before I destroy my $42 camera

Can this module be powered by more than 5V or is a 5V reference needed for something?
If so, whats the maximum voltage that the 3.3V regs can handle? (my ideal solution is direct power from a ~12V source)

It needs a good clean 5v power source and no more than 3.3v on the logic lines. If you have 12v available, there are plenty of 7805-based circuits that will work (you could copy the power-supply section from the Boarduino.)

If you are communicating via 5v TTL serial, use the simple resistor divider for the Rx line as in the camera tutorial.
