RGB LCD Shield, text won't display.

Postby mxtxee » Mon Apr 02, 2012 7:07 am

Be gentle, I'm a little new to all of this :o When I run the HelloWorld example program from the library, the backlight comes on and I can change the color of the backlight with the buttons, but I'm not getting any text. I went through each solder joint and they all seem solid.

What else can I do to troubleshoot?

If you post photos of the front & back of the shield well take a look.

I tried adjusting the potentiometer and that didn't work. Now that I look at pictures of my soldering, it looks awful. Sigh.

Hooray! After taking pictures of the joints, I patched up a few, played with the potentiometer a little more and voila!!

It works! Thanks for the help.

The solder joints on the header pins of the display board look very good. The one on the header pins of the shield look a bit suspicious. They are smooth and shiny, which is good. But they appear to be balled up around the pin and may not have flowed well onto the surrounding solder pad. The ideal joint cross-section is concave as in the diagram below.

Yep! I re-heated two of the joints that looked too convex around the pin and then it worked perfectly. Thanks again!
