Cant get pmb 648 to parse?

Postby thinwing » Mon Apr 23, 2012 3:29 pm

Ordered basic gps module from adafruit to add to icetube clock. After trying seperate sketches including one from parallax,I cannot seem to read usable data on serial monitor.Wired as shown using three wires, and all sketches compilevand load ok on arduino uno...connected to clock,no time correction I can detect...help..kpc

Are you trying to connect to the Arduino or the clock?

I have done both.Using the red ,black, and yellow wires as shown in both tutorials. With the clock ,it acts like it is waiting for info it never recieves. When connected to arduino ,and test schetch is run, serial monitor reveals gibberish...a series of "y"characters.Baud is set for 4800 and am using latest example and libraries.kpc

a series of "y"characters

That sounds very much like a baud-rate mismatch. Try different rates in the serial monitor.

Wouldnt that require a change in baud rate statement in the schetch??..kpc

Only change one side at a time. It is easier to change it in the serial monitor and see if the output improves.

when i plugged in computer said unrecognized device and com 13 no longer comes up as a option under tools,

First I'd try to un-install & re-install the driver. If that doesn't help, you can try the procedure here: http://arduino.cc/en/Hacking/DFUProgramming8U2

Did you check under "other devices" or "unknown devices". I've seen them show up in odd places.
If it doesn't show up anywhere, the 8U2 reset it the next thing to try.

I just checked on my Win-7 system and it has the same exact driver version & date.

cant start code 10

That means that the driver is unable to initiate communications with the device. Doesn't look good for your UNO.
