sounds like the poster is just navigating into the .zip file without actually unpacking it first.

tell him to right click on the file he has downloaded and select 'Extract All...' to start running the unzip wizard. this is an example where an automatic installer would be a worthwhile option to add to the software.

If the examples are working, you should be good to go.

Hey, i'm having a problem with the Arduino UNO R3 driver. after downloading the .zip and installing the drivers in it my device manager shows the message
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
i have been doing a little looking around on my own but no luck so far.

I am running W7 64
i have tried installing on 2 other PCs running w7 home and xp
i have tried installing old and new drivers for the arduino uno
after trying the drivers provided in the .zip, i tried installing the latest usb serial converter from "http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm"
once i have connected the arduino i get the tx light flashing with a very shot on time. the L light flashes on regular intervals with a longer on time then the tx.

i am thinking that the board is the problem, but without a 2nd board i can't be sure.

any help you could give would be appreciated

FTDI drivers are for older Arduino models only. The UNO uses an 16U2 chip which is not compatible with the FTDI drivers. You should use the drivers in the top level of the Arduino-1.0/Drivers folder. When installed, the Device Manager should show an "Arduino UNO R3" under COM & LPT ports.
