MintyBoost isn't providing 500mA when tried with 10 Ohm load

Postby electrosam » Mon May 07, 2012 1:38 pm

Hello !

I wanted to see if MintyBoost does provide 500mA maximum current.

So I hooked up a 10 Ohm, 5W resistor which should draw 500 mA current when supply is 5V.

But MintyBoost didn't allow flow of 500mA, rather it was 290mA and voltage dropped to 4V from 5V after connecting the resistor.

Any clue why this is happening ?
Circuit is proper and components values are perfect.

Help me out !

What did you use for a supply? Did the supply V drop when you connected the resistor?

Hi we do not provide tech support for DIY kits, as we have said, they rarely work when built on a breadboard. Please endeavor to work this out on your own. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Donziboy2.

No, the supply voltage did not drop when I connected 10 Ohm, 5W resistor.
Just the output which is supposed to be 5 V dropped to 4V or so.

Any clue why this is happening ?

Dear Adafruit,
Thanks for your reply, This is what I exactly anticipated.

Are you using an actual minty-boost or just the layout?
