coin acceptor power supply?

Hi , i was just wondering how to power the 4 coin coin acceptor, if its from the arduino which gets power from you comp. or if it plugs into an outlet... if adafruit sells the power supply stuffs could somebody please post a link to its product page or give me the name of it so i can find it?

You will need a 12v regulated supply for the 4-coin model. We have this one, which is more than you need, but an excellent supply. Anything rated for more than 65mA will work. One of these loaded with 8x AA cells will work also.

which would you reccomend? more or less power? i was planning on making the piggy bank set up that becky made a few weeks ago so which is easier to use for that project if you know which one im talknig about?

Either one will work for that project. Personally, I hate changing batteries, so I'd go with a plug-in adapter. The one in the store a lot more power you need. Too much power is not going to be a problem. But look around, you may have a 12v wall-wart lying around. Just be sure it is a DC regulated one.

If you choose an adapter with a barrel plug, one of these adapters will simplify the wiring a bit.

so what is that adapter supposed to be what the other end of the plug looks like? as in other end i meant oppisite of the wall part and by looks like i mean type of plug/hole (cant remember the word)

You mean like the ones on this cable?
They are known as "Barrel Connectors" or "Coaxial DC Connectors".

how do i plug the coin acceptor into the barrel plug adapter when the adapter only has a positive and a negative hole when the coin acceptor has 4 plugs?

The red wire is +12, the black wire is GND. These connect to the + and - terminal on the adapter.

The other two wires are signal wires for counting the coins and are connected to the Arduino (or whatever processor you are using). The instruction sheet is here: http://www.adafruit.com/datasheets/CHmulticoin.jpg

and then if i go with the battery holder i just solder the red to red and black to black on the coin acceptor?
