Coin Acceptor Documentation

Postby SockThief » Fri Apr 13, 2012 6:11 am

Hi!

Was super excited to see the coin acceptor parts (http://www.adafruit.com/products/786 and http://www.adafruit.com/products/787) last night, have had a project in the works for a while which requires one. Does anyone have any docs for it? at this stage I'd be happy with dimension guides for case design etc.

Also, has anyone come across a part such as this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Digital-Coin ... 519ebc02a0 which would work on European coins? I could probably build one with some switches etc, but if there is a ready made part it sometimes doesn't make sense to re-invent the wheel!

cheers

there's no spec or datasheets for these, what documentation do you need?

Hi!

as I live in Sweden, it will take a while to get a part here, so Im investigating the case design and anciliary parts - so any details on the physical dimensions would be great.

What documentation do I need?

Well I have the 1 coin acceptor. There is a 3 position switch on the back with Chinese characters on it. What are the settings for that switch?
There are instructions on the sides of the box. They are in Chinese. Just get this translated and that should help a lot.

I am sorry, there is no link on the catalog page. What you have linked to in your post is the instructions for the 4 coin acceptor. I have the 1 coin acceptor. They are different.
Pull one of each out of stock and look at them. The 1 coin acceptor has an additional switch on the back at the bottom. The 1 coin does not have a LED display. There are differences between the 2 items.

Hi Joe, we don't have any written docs for the 1 coin acceptor but we have the information you need to get it programmed in the product description

https://www.adafruit.com/products/786

To program the validator: power with 12VDC (power wire goes to +12VDC, ground wire to common ground). Press and hold the little button on top for 5 seconds and release. The LED will be on. Now insert 30 sample coins of the value you want to detect (say 30 quarters or 30 Euro coins). Once the LED goes out it's programmed! Connect a 10K (1K to 100K is fine) pullup resistor from the COIN wire to your microcontroller's VCC line (for Arduino, this is a +5V). Insert a coin, and verify that the LED line pulses high for about 40 milliseconds.

have you tried this?

Physically, the 1-coin acceptor faceplate is 64mmx120mm.
The mechanism extends behind the the faceplate approximately 110mm.
It is 40mm wide and approximately 120mm high (including the wiring harness) at the highest point.
