The algorithm for making me sound like a girl?

Postby DerPiltz » Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:47 pm

I'm playing around with AV VCS Diamond voice changer software and I just wondered how they do it.
It has obviously something to do with the pitch and timbre which they change from 0% to 200%.
They make man sound like girl. Girl like Whiskeyalcoholic and Schimpanzee sound like Tiger.
I want to build a similar thing myself but portable.
Is it possible? If it is? Will I have any friends left after I built it and used it on them?
Ahh, la lumière

pitch shifters are pretty common. For awhile there were little children's toys in the shapes of megaphones that would do what you ask.

I don't think they're still available though, so your best bet might be a battery-powered mic, a pitch shifter guitar pedal, and a battery powered speaker.

Pitch shifters work via modulated delay lines that are rotated in and out of being heard in the final signal. It's tricky, but there's ICs out there that do it for you now... My Darth Vader helmet pitch shifts down...
