Modified MintyBoost got me detained at JFK

Postby natchswing » Tue Jul 17, 2007 3:15 pm

Just thought you might like to read my amusing tale. I was detained by the TSA for having a MintyBoost! in my bag.

noooooooooooooo! that sucks. :(

i wonder if it would have been less suspicious in its 'normal' form
seriously, bombs dont look anything like that. ususally theres some sort of, yknow, EXPLOSIVE required. i once got stopped because i had a pair of calipers in my carryon

...
wow, suddenly I'm having second thoughts about fitting my mintyboost in a PVC pipe...as in previous design to waterproof the kit with a retractable USB cord

I really doubt the screening guy will notice what an IED looks like if he ever saw one. they're not that hard to make and certainly don't need an epoxy shell

i was going to take my 4 aa + 7805 on a flight, but decided against it. oh well looks like the minty boost is more of a road trip device. ( i have just finished making my minty boost, but im yet to case it. no tin snips :()

That does suck :[
Maybe keeping the light on it or just nearby would be a good idea. Just in case something like this happens again.
*look it's a battery pack, hook it up to the light*

I can confirm that I've flown with a standard MintyBoost in both checked and carry-on bags without being hassled.

I'm going to be travelling with mine soon. I'm thinking about printing out the assembly instructions complete with website address just in case anyone hassles me.
