Re: Endicia vs. Stamps.com
I was wondering if there is any new knowledge that anyone (including adafruit) has to share regarding shipping software, any alternatives to Endicia and Stamps. I have been using Endicia since last year and have hated it from day 1, too many bugs and more stuff seems to not work in their software than what is actually functional. Haven't tried Stamps but from the previous posts it sounds like Stamps is just as bad or worse. With every upgrade the software UI and options are changing in some ways, and other things get broken or new errors start showing up, things that used to work don't work any more.
Here's my latest experience which determined me to write this in the first place:
Yesterday (September 7 2014) there was a forced software upgrade to update to the lower USPS pricing. However the software was now charging more for priority and first class. After some waiting for tech support they walked me through a bunch of menu navigation, box checking-unchecking and close-restat nonsense, none of which helped, leaving tech support person baffled and confused as to why this is not working. Then she claimed I should just print the label and promised that the log would actually show the right postage amount, again a false claim. Then all of a sudden she "was just informed" that the whole engineering team is working on the overcharging issue and their whole customer base is affected by the bug, better later than never huh...
I asked if I would be reimbursed for all the labels I had to print with the wrong postage amount, she mumbled something like "you can go through the standard process of label refunds", obviously not even thinking what I said (I need to print labels, then actually use them, not ask for a full refund afterwards).
She eventually denied that any partial refunds would be offered and there is nothing they will do about it. I was finally told that once the bug is fixed I should restart Endicia and pricing will show correctly.
The following day I did just that, of course, the old wrong pricing was still in effect.
I called support again, after waiting a few minutes the call hung two times after obviously being picked up by a real person, then finally answered a third time by an overflow person who hung up on me when I expressed my frustration and asked when the bug will be fixed. I probably talked by myself for a while. Awesome, thanks Endicia. After about another 30 minutes on a new call I got to actual technical support who told me they actually released an update. Which actually worked and fixed the wrong pricing issue. Finally someone useful. Would have been nice to get an update notification as they usually do when they force an upgrade.
Sorry for venting all of this here, just thought any prospective customers might want to read this before they buy Endicia.
If the only options are the crappy ones that were mentioned, someone should start a company and write some software that will actually work consistently and be the one stop print-all shipping labels (perhaps include UPS and Fedex/DHL too), I would switch in a heartbeat.
Any new tips for better shipping experience would be appreciated by many Endicia customers.
