How do i hook up a 9v, a pot. and a LM317 to make a quick power supply?

I was going to do that but instead I picked up a small variable power supply educational kit at the local electronics store. I cost $10 and took about 15 minutes to throw together. It can be usefull for other projects as well.

This thing works fine...cost less than $10 for parts....the pot is the most expensive thing...the lm317 was 80 cents.
