boarduino resetting when I activate the serial monitor??

Postby roypardi » Thu Apr 24, 2008 7:36 pm

Hi all,

Anyone know what might cause the boarduino to reset when I click on the serial monitor window in the IDE? I don't think this is expected behavior. Other symptom/clue is that after uploading a sketch (without clicking the reset button - just from the IDE), it takes a fairly long time for the boarduino to start - say compared to when just powering up - that is almost instantaneous.

tx,

the boarduino uses my quickstart bootloader which immediately begins after uploading a sketch.
like the diecimila, it auto-resets when you connect via serial
if you dont want that, take out C6
but then you'll have to press reset when you want to start bootloading

thanks for the quick reply!

I'm more used to the Wiring board- which needs a reset press to upload a sketch, and then will restart after a delay. And no reset if the serial monitor window is activated.

Just to clarify @ the boarduino:

1. uploading from the IDE works fine but there is an n second delay after uploading (10-20 it seems) before it restarts and runs. Is this expected? Does pressing reset get it started immediately? (power cycling does).

2. the serial monitor reset is expected behavior? That one confused me. Are there any issues with serial communication with other apps (e.g. once serial stuff has started, there is no further resetting)?

Oh - unrelated - but the arduino analog pins can function as digital pins (14-19). Is this the same for boarduino?

The boarduino is really nice - love the little silver kit bags- like a yummy snack! :D

it should start the sketch immediately. pressing reset will take 7 seconds as will starting the serial monitor.

yes, this is the same as the diecimila.
it only occurs when the serial connection is opened.

yes it is the exact same chip
