Any way to read/write to FT24C02

Postby magician13134 » Sun Jul 06, 2008 4:34 pm

I have a surface mount FT24C02, is there any way to reprogram this chip with a USBTinyISP or with an ATTiny2313? Thanks...

Datasheet here:

It is an I2C EEPROM. You can use it with your microcontroller of choice, or program it in your computer through some I2C interface.

Alright, it's actually on a USB device right now (it's a little ad, you plug it into your computer and it takes you to a website, but the site doesn't exist), but will it need power to program? And if it is plugged into the computer for power, will I still be able to read/write to it? Thanks

Could you post detailed pictures?
What I understand, is that you have some device with this eeprom, and you want to use the eeprom?

Yup, you plug it into a computer and it tries to take you to www.behindthemask.info, but that site does not exist, so I thought it'd be cool to see if I could possibly change the web address simply through the EEPROM.

I'm not sure if it'd be that simple, since there's an autorun file, I don't know if you can put files like that on EEPROM? Unfortunately, I do not have a camera right now, but there a photography class here, I'll see if one of them can help me grab a few pictures.

The chip will have to be powered to reprogram it.
If you power the whole board then whatever brains are on there
will undoubtedly start trying to talk to the EEPROM.
You will probably have to do some reverse engineering of the rest of the
circuit in order to determine how to reprogram the memory.

Are there any other identifiable chips on the board?

When you plug this thing into a computer what device does it show up as?
I'm guessing it shows up as a CDROM or possibly some other form of
read-only drive. Windows is picky about what type of media it will launch
autorun files from.

You can put autorun files on a flash drive, but they won't
autorun. Burn the same files to a cdrom and they'll launch quite happily.
