spokePOV as display - tips on connecting wheel to motor?

Postby sean » Tue Nov 04, 2008 1:50 pm

Hey... i'd like to use my spokePOV to double as a stationary display of sorts. I'm just looking for tips on running a bike wheel with an electric motor.. I do not have welding skills or tools so I'm wondering about a kind of "bolt together" solution. Maybe a high rpm motor using friction drive on a tire? Tips on reliable, cheap, quiet motor sources would also be appreciated. I was thinking a washing machine motor or something... I have a couple of weed whackers but they are loud!

Thanks :-)

I ran my first SpokePOV's on a brushless bike hub motor. I ran that wheel for hours on the side of the road stumping for Ron Paul. Probably the easiest way.
