x0xb0x with custom 303-style enclosure... SE bassline.

Postby bcbox » Wed Nov 05, 2008 2:24 pm

just saw it on matrixsynth. Not sure who designed it but it looks nice. It's pairs basic extruded end panels with custom top & rear panels. The graphics looks pretty good. It's pricey but small quantities and I'm sure a lot of work went into it.

lovely but well too expensive, i mean thats not far off a real 303 price. Shame they wont sell jsut the cases, cos i'd buy one (or 2) if they did.

phono, i hear you.... the drawback is the fact that it's a stock x0xb0x and you can buy a real TB-303 for about the same price. I'm sure he'll do ok though and most will be sold.

Hey guys, this is ripe (John) the designer of the SE BassLine x0x.

I understand the price is steep, but really if you start to look at what it costs to get a small quantity of enclosures and knobs, I think you will see that it's not that cheap to do.

For example, the bare case itself is over $200 (frontpanel express), then you have the silk screening in two colors, which is around $200 (minimum), the knobs are ~ $60 per set (digi-key), then there are the different switches, trial and error parts for prototypes, etc and all the time to manage the project. This is on top of the standard x0x kit prices.

Prices go down as quantity goes up of course, but you can't hardly find a supplier that will talk to you for such small quantities.

I would be willing to sell cases alone, but there are some modifications needed for a standard x0x to fit, and I think most people would be shocked at the price I would have to charge for just a case. Msg me privately if you really are interested in just a case...

There is always the standard x0x kit or the ones on eBay for those who don't think it's worth the extra for a special case. :)

cheers

For all the hard work that goes into these, i think the price is justifiable. They look great!

Very nice job, sir. This is probably the best-looking x0x I've seen yet.

I don't think $1500 is terribly high when you consider how much abuse this thing will hold up to as compared to a plastic-enclosure x0x or (heaven forbid) a real 303. Sure you could get a 303 for $500 to $1000 more, but frankly after building my x0xb0x, I wouldn't want a real 303. The x0x is better. :)

ripe, you did a great job. It's expensive but certainty no one's saying you're asking too much.
Is the artwork silkscreened or is there there a clear overlay on the top panel?

Thanks!

Yes, it is silkscreened with epoxy paint, there is a black layer with an orange-ish layer on top for the track selection numbers. I looked at doing an overlay, but the quality was not acceptable to keep the anodized aluminum "feel"

I love your enclosure... best one ive seen yet... hands down!

What would just the case cost? Also, what modifications need to be made to get the pcbs to fit?
