non-stationary bicycle

Postby sparr » Fri Nov 14, 2008 6:18 pm

All of the photos show a stationary wheel spinning. Can anyone provide anecdotal information about how it looks in motion? I would expect the image to get skewed, the wheel moves forward 6 feet per revolution.

To take advantage of the effect I am predicting, at one point I was considering a project similar to SpokePOV, but I wanted to explicitly use the motion of the bicycle to paint a stationary-in-space image as the bike moved.

Thoughts? Experience?

your eyeballs track it so apparently it looks OK.

Ya Layada's right, the viewer tracks the bicycle intuitively and he just see's the image provided the wheel is spinning fast enough.

I did take some long exposure photos of my bike as is road past and made some neat exposures for the camera, but I'm not sure how to make this work for a real time human viewer. I think I may have posted some of those images here about a year ago.
