ARDUINO PROGRAMMING ERROR--REQUEST ASSISTANCE

Postby jfd713 » Sat Dec 06, 2008 9:42 am

Hi,

Have the starter kit, and successfully made it through tutorial Lesson 3. Much fun with blinking lights. When attempting to upload the first sketch in Lesson 4, received the error code:

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x30
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x5

Attempted to re-upload earlier sketches, and get the same error.

Potentially useful data: Duemilanove, Mac PPC OS 10.5.5, Arduino 0012, FTDI Driver 2_1_10. Mounted LED on board stays lit; TX light blinks about once per second. Have unplugged/plugged in several times, restarted the computer, and reloaded FTDI Driver, all without success.

Thanks in advance for all assistance offered.

Jim

To embellish my original post, I would point out that I've been to the Arduino site and searched through the help forums. Others appear to have had similar problems, though not with the Mac/Duemilanove combo. Regardless, I couldn't find a suitable answer.

Number one cause of these errors is not having the right board selected in the Tools -> Board drop down.

Number two cause is not having the right serial port selected.

Assuming these two are correct, the easiest way to solve the "not in sync" errors is to re-burn the bootloader. This of course requires some additional hardware.

Thanks for the response. I was able to make the Arduino work on another computer, so I figured out it wasn't a hardware thing. I then de-installed the driver, and downloaded and re-installed again from FTDI.

Bottom line is that I'm back in business and response will give me better banned to solve problems by other than brute force in the future.
