XBee Pro and adapter clearance

Postby grapeghot » Sun Mar 08, 2009 6:25 pm

I just notice using a XBee Pro might be a problem with the adapter. It appears that the module will hit the top of the capacitor and possibly the regulator because it's longer by 5.3mm than the non-pro version. I don't have the adapter myself, so I don't know if bending the components over when mounting them will create enough clearance? I am basing this off of this one photo: Image

Also, I noticed that the schematic doesn't open properly in Eagle(v5.4.0) because it's inconsistent with the board. I am thinking of making some mods and enlarging the board to make room for a TO-220 regulator.

I noticed this with the XBee Pro modules, but it was easily worked around by bending the Cap and Vreg sideways (using a narrow-body Cap helps). You could also mount the cap on the bottom if that would work your project.

The sideways Cap still causes the XBee Pro module to sticks up a tiny bit (less than 1mm) but all the pins make contact and it works just fine.

i just bend the cap a tiny bit out and the pro without problems. it does rise a tiny bit but not more than 1mm

Good to know that there is just enough room. Any idea why the schematic doesn't open correctly in Eagle?

I am using version 5.4.0 and the error is "Inconsistent data in file xbee.sch". The board opens with no problem.

Nevermind, I just downloaded the file again and it appears to work now.

Me again. :o Now, I am paranoid about the clearance at the front for Pro modules with the RP-SMA connector. Is there enough room to clear the resistors?

shouldnt be a problem, the antenna hangs over the edge of the XBee and thus over the edge of the adapter
