I couldn't tell you exactly but I was looking into this project a while ago:

The Aurora Open Source DJ Mixer

It's got knobs that are backlit so this may be a good start. Check out a pic here.

I think if you hop onto their forum you'll find the discussion to get part numbers, sources, etc.

Get a clear acrylic panel
from Adafruit Ind.

Have a silkscreen made for the back of the panel that covers all but the "lettering parts".

Light the inside of the box with blue LEDs.

hi guys u must see what i'v found..
http://glowhut.com/el-strip--el-panel.html
this could be the answer to what i was looking for
black top with all the writing parts white and beneath the top this EL panel :D
but i think there's a problem with it, it run's on 220v or 110v i think, and Also noticed something about a 12v inverter?
can u guy's help me to do it without adding onother power supply ?
can i use this EL panel on the x0x board without damaging the x0x?
thanks form advance for any help

Just quickly looking at this EL panel, cool, but I don't think that it will work very easily because all of the front panel pots, buttons and switches would have to pass through the panel for it to be fitted behind the faceplate.

I think that if you were to have the clear faceplate from Adafruit silkscreened on the topside (with lettering left clear), then some bright LEDs positioned on the inside of the box will distribute their light across the panel evenly because the clear plastic will act like a light pipe, spreading the light across the surface.

You could use any color LEDs, or even put multiple sets of LEDs and toggle between different colors 8)

hi maxtim
thanx for u'r replay
about the EL panel if u notice u can cut it to what ever u like.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EL-Neon- ... ccessories
the cutting issue is not the problem the real problem is the power supplay and the inverter to 12V
i dont want another power supplay so i was thinking if there is the the EL panel there must be a gadget with it ..
so i found this product : http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/22493 ... board.html
its the same Technology and the most beautiful part that it run's on USB :)
so i can cut it and shape it to what ever i want and put it inside the x0x :)
i tried to look for only the EL panel that run's on USB but without any success so..

WOW! Very cool.
You can indeed cut it to whatever shape and size you want as long as you leave one anode and one cathode connection.
It runs off of a 9V battery (through an inverter) that could be secured into the x0xb0x case.
http://www.cooltronix.com/ebay/diy/
Then add a toggle switch on the front panel.

yes i know i told u :D
but look at the Size of the EL panel! its very small thats why it runs on 9V
the A4 size runs on 12V thats the problem ..and i need the A4 size for the x0x

I'm thinking that the way to go would be to find a 12V (10xAA) NiMH or NiCd rechargeable battery pack (like the ones used for RC cars) installed in the case with a plug on the rear panel for re-charging.
You could even install a battery level monitor.

Example:

mmm..thats could be an option.
but why run it on bettery's when i can run it with USB..?
u probebly know that if i use a power supplay like battery's or any other power supplay inside the x0x i take a risk of electric induction.

I think that running it off of USB would be very inconvenient because then you would always have to have it hooked to a computer, yuck!
If you are OK with another cable anyways, why not use another 12V wall wart that can be plugged in anywhere?
As for electrically induced noise in the box, a battery provides very clean and silent power.
The power converter and the foil panel itself would be more of a concern. But, you will not know till you try.
