I actually never tried 1.9 slaved to MIDI, it did really suck, like, not work at all(or close to). Sorry about that!

I have rewritten it and fixed it now(and I dug out my MIDI merger and actually tested to change pattern while slaved to different MIDI clock).
(The banned I did on sunday was actually quite bad...)

So, current release is 1.9.1.


How to use it?
MIDI pattern change behaves as if you pushed a pattern select button or twisted the bank knob, that is, it will change pattern the next time it starts over again. If you want to program pattern changes into your DAW, you only need to make sure the pattern change message appears within the pattern playing just before you want it to switch. You will get visual feedback if you change the pattern number. It also works when it isn't running so you can send it a pattern change message before the song starts too.

Note, it will not send pattern change messages, I saw no point in that, but that could easily be implemented if someone might need it.

SokkOS 1.9 uploaded via c0ntr0l on an Intel Mac with 10.5.6
Works perfectly. Haven't tested midi sync.
I had a bit of trouble with the serial connection continually dropping out, however turning off/on the x0x while c0ntr0l was running and connected fixed it! (it probably says to do that in the instructions)

I have some requests / wishes... I think it would be nice to be able to use the UP/DOWN buttons inte play mode, just like the RAS buttons, so you can shift notes up/down an octave. I would also like to be able to retrigger the current note. Sometimes when you tap the accent button in play mode it'll retrigger, so I find myself hammering on the accent button nowadays just to get the note to retrigger. It only works some times though and is not ideal. I would also like to trigger the notes everytime I press a button in keyboard mode and not slide between notes as it will do if I have another button pressed.

I would also rather double the tempo when I press done+tempo, instead of half the tempo.

Wow, stop flooding the thread with all your happyhappyjoyjoy praises over MIDI pattern change...

Has anyone tested it? I only have a Roland D-50 that is actually a MIDI synth besides the x0xb0xes and it can only send patch change one through 64, I would like to get confirmation that it works all the way up to 128.

It would also be great to confirm that c0ntr0l still works(it does for me) and that the half-time bug is a goner.

Sorry for my late reaction, I thought it would last a while before pattern change would be implemented if implemented at all. But this is great news!

But erm how does it work? Do you have to send program changes to the x0xb0x? I don't know if there's a manual attached to the firmware zip?

I tested midi sync with my computer on logic pro 8 and it seems ok ... maybe not perfectly syncronized but it could come from my software ... ???
Need to test simply with a drum machine or MPC sampler and see if it does the same ...

Hey ! I'm back from sync testing
The b0x was really "out of sync" when I tested with a MPC1000 and with a TR626 ???
I reloaded the OS and the sync worked fine after that but it didn't seem very stable to me.
Switching from a patern to an other felt like it was loosing a bit of sync precision.

Is there a way you could add the original 303's TIME-MODE function ?
I know that we can "kind of" do the same but the 303's TIME-MODE can really make the pattern rhythm "random".

geat os.. i truly love to be able to go into edit mode without stopping the machine.. and sync is as good/bad as in the normal os..

normal os has a offset of 800 samples..sokkos 860..
#what is probably because of the swing funktion...


2 wishes for future version...

the evilxox os has stronger swing factors.. the last one allready halfs the the speed .. ifound this 2 last extreme swingfactors pleasing..but not enough to go for the evilxox os..

But would be nice to add 2 more swing factors...


The temporary function on rest and accent is nice..but on slide i would preffer to have it switched because its nice to use it as a fade out for the machine and i ve the gate/env on mod that gives with permanent slides a nice variation what is only usable when i dont have to press it all the time.

I finally did it....

I am using a (old) Mac G4 MP with OS 10.4.11...and downloaded the following progs (tx for the hints Toxaco) :

Python 2.5.4 (Standard install.)
wxpython (Standard install.)
pyserial (Extract files from the archive, open a shell/console in that directory and type: "python setup.py install")
USB Serial Driver : FT232B 2.1.10 (Standard install.)
c0ntr0l for Mac (Just unzip)

After installing everything just be sure to restart the Mac once, then doubleclick c0ntr0l.py and follow the standard procedure to update the firmware of the x0xb0x.
