I actually never tried 1.9 slaved to MIDI, it did really suck, like, not work at all(or close to). Sorry about that!
I have rewritten it and fixed it now(and I dug out my MIDI merger and actually tested to change pattern while slaved to different MIDI clock).
(The banned I did on sunday was actually quite bad...)
So, current release is 1.9.1.
How to use it?
MIDI pattern change behaves as if you pushed a pattern select button or twisted the bank knob, that is, it will change pattern the next time it starts over again. If you want to program pattern changes into your DAW, you only need to make sure the pattern change message appears within the pattern playing just before you want it to switch. You will get visual feedback if you change the pattern number. It also works when it isn't running so you can send it a pattern change message before the song starts too.
Note, it will not send pattern change messages, I saw no point in that, but that could easily be implemented if someone might need it.
