Kick butt maganifying desk lamp?

Postby george graves » Sat Mar 06, 2010 11:23 pm

I seem to be on my second (third?) one. The walmart/k-mart lamps all seem to be made with plastic at the swizzle head, and the base. Eventually one or the other breaks.

Any recommendations?

I have a very nice magnifying lamp from Lee Valley Tools (http://www.leevalley.com). I can't find it on their web site though so they may not sell it any more.

I'll try to look up the exact model number.

EDIT:
The model number is 8093. A quick google search for magnifying lamp 8093 turns up a few places including this one:

Like I said, I got mine at Lee Valley Tools and have been happy with it.

Ottlite has several real good lights and they cost it too. I have two different models and really like them.http://www.ottlite.com/c-41-magnification-lamps.aspx

I like the luxo wave+, hasn't failed me yet, twin fluo's with an extra swing arm lens for closeup.

i've had this one for a few years too,the clamp could be better though.

It is pretty sweet, I've got the black 8321 ESD version. Found it in a local electronics store in vegas.

Where did you order from? (It seems extremely difficult to find distributor info on their site...)

If you want the totally kickbutt-most magnifier, check out Vision Engneering's Mantis range.
I find that traditional magnifiers are fine for inspection but usually don't have enough space to work comfortably under.
