recommend a DIY project community

Postby scalefree » Tue Jul 04, 2006 2:47 am

Where's a good community/forum for discussing/designing DIY electronics projects, not just building the ones made by ladyada? Any recommendations?

I should explain, it's not that I don't love her projects as much as all of you, it's just that I'm looking for a place where I can find people to collaborate with on learning the ins & outs of designing & building my own projects. So, where should I go for that? And don't be rude! ;)

I don't know of any "communities" that focus on DIY (I would love to find one myself)...BUT I do have a good place to start.

I use this site for almost all of my schematics:

Discovercircuits.com

Look there and see if there is anything that interests you.

Also, look for things that you have in your house that could use redesigning, or upgrading. Someone has probably already done it, so just google it and you'll fins something on it. For example, I hate my alarm clock, so I am in the process of building a "nixie" clock. The numbers are vintage numeric displays called nixie tubes. It's a step up from the normal LED clock...

Any questions, please ask!

Are you familiar with these?

Maybe you can find some direction from there.

Another idea is to find a local robotics club. Even if you are not interested
in building a robot, there will be lots of people there who will be into
electronics, microcontrollers, programming, etc. with an emphasis on
building/designing things yourself.

That is cool, but don't reach out and slam the snooze button!!

Shattered nixie tubes = bad way to start your day!
