Using Xbees to control relays

Hi adafruit,

I've seen your Using Xbees to control relays blog at http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2009/04/21 ... rol-relays. I will follow your suggestion and build this project. However, the T9AS1D12 standard relay is not in stock at either Digi-Key or Mouser. Which would be a good alternative, the T90S1D12-5 or the T9AS1D22-5-ND?

The "-5" refers to the coil voltage. This is what was used for the project.
I believe that the "-ND" suffix is a Digi-key specific catalog number.

It also explains the difference between the T90S1D12 and T90S1D22 variants.

Thanks, arduwino. However, the T90S1D12-5 belongs to the T90 series, and there is no T90S1D22. The T9AS1D12 and T9AS1D22-5-ND are from the T9A series. I asked about the T90S1D12-5, because the T9AS1D22-5-ND has quick connect terminals for contacts. What are quick connect terminals for contacts? If I buy the T9AS1D22-5-ND, can I safely ignore them (and grind my teeth for buying something I don't need)?

What are quick connect terminals for contacts?

Look at pictures on the data sheet. The quick disconnect terminals are on the top of the housing. The PC mount version has all of the leads on the underside.

Hi arduwino,

The datasheet says that T9AS1D22-5-ND also has the same PCB mount leads for coils and contacts on the underside as the T9AS1D12. Does this indicate that either the quick connect leads for contacts or the PCB lead for contacts can be used? If the PCB leads are used, can the quick connect leads be safely ignored, perhaps because they are covered with a removable plastic cover?

You can use one or the other. If it is not in an enclosure, it would be a good idea to cover any unused contact terminals for safety. There will be 120V AC on them when the coil is energized.
