Postby jtaylor2125 » Fri Aug 27, 2010 11:16 am

Looking to get a new soldering iron, want one with a base and a power switch. Not super expensive I'm just a hobbyist.

Thanks

I personally like this one, I've used it for about a week, i broke one thing on it(i think it was defective one of the collars got cracked) but other wise its very nice, and amazon has already issued me a return label for it. i actually just broke it this morning, and if you have amazon prime, you get free 2 day shipping, right now it is priced at $53.99 for the 937+ which is reasonable for what i tis, you can also look at the 937 or even the 936 if you need to save money, here are the links to all

937+ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I30QBW/ $53.99
937 amazon doesn't seem to carry this one
936 http://www.amazon.com/Aoyue-936-AOYUE-Soldering-Station/dp/B000VINMRO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1282927711&sr=1-2 $39.99

ultimately i think the problem i had with mine was a manufacturing defect and not a problem with all of them, as the reviews of it seems good

I have a 937+ and really like it. It is an outstanding value. I think it's what Ian over at dangerousprototypes.com uses too (but not sure). I think Sparkfun uses Aoyues too (although they may primarily use the 70W ones rated for lead-free work, which they also sell from their store.)

Its tips are compatible with Hakko tips (the Aoyue 936 is basically a Hakko 936 clone) if you need replacement/alternate tips.
