Female version of the JST 2-pin cable?

Postby toddfun » Tue Sep 07, 2010 11:00 pm

I would like to use your lipoly battery and charger but I don't see any good way to adapt this battery to my dev boards.

It would be nice if you sold a female version of the JST 2-pin cable so I could solder it to my dev boards and easily connect and disconnect the battery from the dev board and charger.

Plus with two female JST 2pin cables and one male JST 2pin cable a person could easily connect two lipoly's in series for 7.4v power source.

there are no matching in-line connectors for JST. the best solution is to put a JST PH 2-pin connector on your boards (they are available in thm) or replace the JST connector with some other connector that has inline abilities. we dont know of any off hand

JST PA series connectors are quite similar and have both inline and PC-board receptacles. The main difference is that they have a little latch lever where the key is on the PH series. I've attached a (bad cell phone) pic--PH are the two on the left, PA the three on the right. Digikey P/N's for the PA are 455-1486-ND (line plug), 455-1548-ND (line receptacle), and 455-1817-ND (PC mount receptacle).

And yes, the line mount receptacle really is that big. Mostly it's a flange that looks like it's intended to make it easier to hold.

AMP makes some PH-compatible items, but I don't think I was able to find a line-mount receptable.

Thanks!

But I would think that if Adafruit wants to sell the batteries and chargers they should also carry the needed adapters to connect them to something.

Now I might just as well buy batteries , chargers and adapters from Sparkfun or other single source vendor.

Except that Sparkfun uses the exact same JST PH series connectors, that is. :-)

Sparkfun uses those as well. Connectors are a Hard Problem in engineering, we tried to go with the emerging standard which is JST-PH. We have genuine JST PH cables which work quite well and digikey stocks JST PH connectors in both SMT and THM and are fairly sturdy. You can even use the THM connectors in 2.54mm/0.1" perfboard quite easily (which we have done). we have some part numbers in our handy part selector wiki: http://www.ladyada.net/wiki/partselector/jst

and besides... again, as kevin said --

todfun, we assume you'll be bringing this up with them as well - please let us know what they say or post a link to your forum post in their forums, thanks!

I just want to make sure that http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?WT.z_header=search_go&lang=en&site=us&keywords=455-1704-ND&x=0&y=0 is the right connector for https://www.adafruit.com/products/328 this battery?

I ordered the wrong one once, and I don't want to do it twice :)

Looks like the right one to me (JST PH series, 2-pin), but I've never used the PTH parts.
