MinyBoost and Belkin TuneFM for iPod

Postby deek » Sat Jul 29, 2006 10:42 pm

So I great discovery had been made tonight. I needed to buy a new FM transmitter for my iPod and I found the TuneFM. It comes with a car adapter (no more wasted AAAs from accedently leaving my old one on). Much to my surprise the output of this adapter is 5V and has a USB connector (The ones used on most digital cameras) I plugged it all in and to my joy the transmitter works & the charge icon comes on in the iPod.

While I don't know how much power is actually getting to the iPod for charging I think it may still charge. I am currently running my iPod battery down to check how well it works.

Anyone else using this setup that can comment on its charging capabilities?

Little update. While the iPod does infact charge (faster than the mintyboost alone) I believe it is trying to draw to much current and the whole entire tin gets hot. This may not be the case but I am pretty sure it is since on the power adapter it says 5V/500mA.

If you are using the TuneFM. How are you pluging in the MintyBoost?

I use a USB cable. The TuneFM has a mini USB jack in the bottom of it

MintyBoost -> USB Cable (USB A to mini B) -> TuneFM -> iPod

OK, I was hoping there was a way to hook up the minty boost without using a cable. I am not an Ipod fan, but that tuneFM looks like a very elegant solution.
Thankyou
