I haven't used the WES51, so can't really tell, but the digitally controlled Aoyue 937+ is something like half the price of the digitally controlled Weller (the WESD51 I think?)

I love my Aoyue 937+, great iron!

You will be happy with that. It is a great iron.

Yea, I have a WESD51. I love it. The tips are lasting FOREVER. The real weller tips must be far superior to anything that I was use to (radio shack irons)

I use tip tinner after about 1000 joints. And I only use distilled water on my sponge. I really think the distilled water makes a difference - but I have no proof. Just a hunch.

i don't know about the WES51 but i love my aoyue 937+ especially at the price point it is, got mine on amazon in 2 days(i have a student prime account, it was FREE) so its nice. i had one problem with the plastic retaining collar having a crack, i'm assuming a manufacturing defect, i just used the amazon return stuff, they paid shipping, and refunded it and i ordered a replacement, i haven't had the same problem with this one, so i'm assuming it was just a one time deal.

Which one can you easily get tips and supplies for? Both irons are excellent, but if you can only get Weller tips- then the Aoyue doesn't make any sense. Or vice-versa.

The Aoyue is, as far as I can tell, fully Hakko tip-compatible.
