The FPGA is a 208 pin 500K Spartan 3E. One of the pin headers is used to interface to a daughter board that can add another 500K Spartan 3E (Core 2) and Propeller chip (FX2), essentially doubling the Synth and FX. The other expansion will be used to add 8 analog VCFs (probably based on the Moog stepper ladder filter design). Two of these boards can be added... one for each core. Because of space considerations, I doubt the VCF boards will end up being throughhole.

Yep. The UI for editing/saving/selecting sounds and MIDI processing is almost done, and is happily controlling the synth engine, but still needs to talk to the Parallax chip. I haven't started on the sequencer yet, but the buttons are there. I'll probably release the synth before the sequencer is done.

Oh... and it'll be a kit, but the SMDs will be premounted/soldered.

Well that does seem pretty good so far! 8) Not many people making polyphonic synth kits, if any?!

Outta curiosity... does anyone have a PPG Wave 2.3 and a chip programmer who'd be willing to dump the roms? I don't need it immediately, but would like to have them on hand for a future project.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the link. I just noticed your signature... I installed JackOSX on my Hackintosh just last week. (I needed to add a limiter to keep the commercials on Hulu from being crazy loud.) Very handy utility!

Glad it's working right on the Hackintosh! ;-)

Question: have you posted to other forums about this? Although plenty of people around here I'm sure are interested, there's other places where I think the interest might be even greater... it seems like a really ambitious project!

Oh, and more re: PPG - another link: http://elektron-users.com/index.php?opt ... 1&id=88770

Sweet... that has exactly what I was needing! Thanks!

As far as posting this in other places... I will, but I kind of prefer flying under the radar until I have a prototype that looks as pretty as it sounds... all the good stuff :)

Since I'm nearing that point, I did decide to lift the lid on it to the degree that I have here at the Adafruit forums mainly to get some preliminary feedback, but it'll still be a couple weeks at least before I go posting anything on Matrixsynth or the like.

Everyone knows that it's vaporware until I prove otherwise. :-)
