New x0xb0x Panel Overlay v1.3 (Sold Out!)

Pictured up above is v1.0 of my x0xb0x main panel (600dpi version here).

I am going to be having ten of these panel overlays printed, and I will be making eight available to others who have made x0xb0xes as well. I'm not completely certain of the cost yet, but it should be around US$30 - US$40 each for a heavy plastic (5mil Lexan) label with all holes (bolt, switch, button, knob, and LED) cut out.

Current I'm waiting on a second set of samples from the printer to decide exactly which printing process I wish to go with, then I'll be able to give a more solid price. As soon as I have a solid, final price and the order is placed, I'll let people know then I'll be able to accept payment for the labels.

With regards to cost, note that I'm not making a profit on these. The price I charge will be for the printing of the panel, shipping (to me, then out to you), and PayPal fees. I'm not interested in profiting here, just getting my panel design printed up for myself and others at a reasonable price. The per-piece price is going to be a bit high because of both the high printing quality low count of pieces made.

Or, conversely, if you wish to try printing the panel yourself or redesigning it, I've got the following files available for your use:

All of the three aforementioned files plus a 600dpi version of the image up top are available in a bundle: x0xb0x_mainpanel_overlay_v1.0.zip

The Illustrator file requires two fonts, Interstate Bold and Stop. These are not provided in the bundle. The text is placed in the file both as laid-out text and outlines, though, so if you aren't modifying the current text they won't be needed.

Additionally, I should note that the all-seeing eye logo was appropriated (and modified) without permission from the side of a box of Steve Jackson Games's Illuminati: New World Order. I'm not sure of the legality of this, but hopefully it's not a problem as no one is profiting from these panels and it's of very limited use.

So, that's it. If you are interested in a panel, please reply to this thread saying that you are definitely interested purchasing one. The first 8 replies will get the first 8 panels.

And yes, I'll be certain to post a photograph of final, printed panel before I even begin accepting payment for them.

It's looking like it'll be either just under $40 or just under $30, shipped to you.

I need to wait for some more samples from the print company, then decide which process to use. Direct printing on Lexan will be just under $40, with printing on polyester then laminated with Lexan being just under $30.

I will be very particular about the printing process because I want it to all look perfect, so I won't go with the cheaper option if I don't think it looks good.

Also, I have ordered up some red keycaps, so included with the panel file will be a red cap, so things will match the panel.

Right now I'm also working on a new logo, because I don't think very many people are interested in the 'illuminated' logo. The idea I came up with last night can be seen here, with a sample of it dropped on tha panel (and the words 'TRANSISTORIZE THE WORLD') here.

What do you (and others) think of the direction the new logo is going? It would be an original work (no borrowed Steve Jackson Games IP), and is a bit more in style with a transistor-based synth. It just needs some polish...

Nice. :) Thanks. Also, I reworked it even more, just to clean it up, provide more balance, emphasized the text, and make it more clearly a transistor.

Check it out here.

I'll work it into the full panel later today...

Sorry, didn't see that you'd already mentioned the cost in your first post.

Not a problem. I'm still not completely sure of the costs... It'll be whatever I pay, plus the cost of the red key cap (under $1), PayPal fees, postage, and packing materials . I don't really want to profit from this, but I don't want to lose money, either.

I wish there was a way to order 100 of them, because then the price would be around $13 or so each. However, thus far there seem to only be three people (including myself) interested.

Anyway, once I've got a solid dollar figure I'll post it. For now I'm working on the logo and layout some more. Just polishing things...

I'm interested, just waiting to jump in closer to production when I know a price and all that.

Most should be $40... If I can get enough people replying to say that they are interested, I'd be apt to buy more of them, driving down the price.

For those of you who are interested, I did more work on the x0xb0x panel today, including adding a new logo.

The standard images of the panel, plus images of the logo, and Adobe Illustrator files for both the panel and the logo can be found here: http://www.nuxx.net/gallery/v/stuffivemade/x0xb0x/frontpanel/v1_1/

Here's the main changes I made:
- New logo.
- Changed the knob center points to normal hash marks, as the pots aren't center detent. Sometimes tune is, so I played with just leaving one there, but then it looks off balance. This looks all-around cleaner.
- Fixed up the alignment of the white keys and the through-holes. Two were off ever so slightly (hundreths of points).

It may get a little more polish, but for now I'm real happy with it. Now, to go home and keep soldering on my x0xb0x... Hopefully it'll have taken shape by the weekend.

I don't suppose you'd be open to the idea of bootload being "bootyload"?

I admit a little disappointment when I discovered that the production panels omitted the y!

For what it's worth, v1.2 of the panel is done. I fixed the glitch above the keyboard where the top of the white line wasn't perfectly straight (there was a bit of a 'bump' in it, as can be seen here). I also cleaned up the keys a bit, too, as they were overly complex the way I first drew them.

I'm going to let this version sit for a day or three, then place the order. The red keycaps (for the run/stop button) are waiting for me at home, and my x0xb0x is coming along nicely.

So, it looks like everything is progressing well...
