No idea. What specific features are you looking for that don't exist in the current hardware?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm really excited about Bluetooth 4.2's ability to communicate over the internet without a third device. It is also faster and more secure. It uses less power too.

What I really want to do is make direct pub/sub calls with MQTT from my phone to a Feather.

Ah.. I doubt we'll ever support that.

The IP section of the BT-4.2 spec only applies to "Bluetooth Smart" devices. Bluetooth Smart devices support all the other modes defined in the BT spec, including Bluetooth High Speed, which is a thin layer of technology wrapped around a much larger core of marketing BS.

A BTHS device contains a Bluetooth Classic subsystem and an 802.11 wifi subsystem. The only thing the BT Classic part does is negotiate an ad-hoc network connection for the wifi system. The actual data transfer and networking is done by the wifi part. It's kind of like advertising an electric skateboard with 1200 pounds of towing capacity (small print: as long as you put it in the bed of a pickup truck).

Marketer-speke aside, Bluetooth Classic devices require a vendor ID which you can only get as a dues-paying member of the association, and there's a list of things you can and can't do with the VID. That encumbrance is why we don't carry any BT Classic hardware now, and will probably rule out our adding BT Smart hardware any time soon.
