Defective - Fingerprint sensor

Post by iHack »

Order ID: 1039695-7285370917

Hello, I purchased a fingerprint sensor that is not recognized. Following the documentation I wired up the scanner and tried the enroll Arduino script. The sensor was never recognized. I then downloaded the Windows program to attempt to test and enroll. The scanner connected, but no device information was retrieved or displayed on the lower left side of the application. Additionally the enroll process would not work using the Windows application. Each time I connected the sensor and tried to enroll the red LED would blink once quickly then nothing else. I saw on the forums the LED should remain on in certain situations which this one did not. The Order ID: 1039695-7285370917

I would start by splicing the solid-core wires onto power and ground as well. Also, you should solder the splices and cover them with electrical tape or heat-shrink tubing.
Try that and see if it helps. Keep me posted.

Thank you. I was hopeful soldering the wires would fix the problem but unfortunately I have the same results as before. Let me know if you need more information/pictures or have other suggestions.

Have you tried the adafruit example programs? SFGDemo is some pretty lousy stuff. I don't think there's anything wrong with your fingerprint sensor.

Thanks Rick. You were correct. The problem was with the SFGDemo software, the enroll Arduino script is working. I'd like to point out (for others) a small - potentially obvious - detail that makes a difference. When using the Arduino serial monitor to enroll make sure you select "Newline" the dropdownbox otherwise hitting enter won't send the data to enroll.

Thanks for the support! I'm up and running.

Good point about the Newline. Thanks for the update!
