It is quite simple and can be built from scratch, rather than having to find at a distributor. Also it contains no hazardous materials, beyond the possiblity someone could swallow the ball bearing or poke themselves with the pins during assembly (neither of which is as hazardous as the mercury switch's glass and mercury )
Haven't tested it out, but it's there for anyone that needs it.
