Fan Installation

I have more of a physics than electronic problem here...
I'm trying to install the MiniPOV3 on a fan like this: http://campus.almagro.ort.edu.ar/static ... tada/48646
I can't get it to work, the battery pack flies away because it's too heavy (the weight makes the fan spin and shake and things start to fly away from it), I've tried changing the batteries to AAA instead of AA because they are lighter, still no luck. Am I missing something ? What am I doing wrong ? Any suggestions ? Thank you in adv!

Edit: Trrying to weight the battery pack and attaching a same weight stone (LOL) to the other helix.
Edit2: Stone, battery pack flew away on dangerous speeds to my head. Darwin Award here i come ! ;D

You must balance anything you are trying to spin around. The items with the greatest mass should be located closest to the center of rotation. A good way to check balance in your application is mount everything, spin the fan by hand while the fan face is vertical and if the fan stops in random locations, say 3-5 times in a row, it is probably balanced. Also, secure your stuff so it cant so flying off at your head...

Hi I am planning a fan installation too but the minipov has not arrived yet.

Can you please give me a hint of the exact dimensions of the board w+w/o the serial connector and the weight? So I can try out a battery (Lipo?) with similar weight. as seen here: http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2009- ... -age-clock

A very elegant solution could this be: http://www.metricmind.com/clock/clock.htm but for that I will have to learn a lot about voltage dividing... or fastening the batteries on the rotating part. Going through the ballbearing ring looks good to me

You would help me out to get further if you can provide the dimensions - if possible in mm and grams - thank you very much!
