MiniPOV4 Nonfunctional; Unprogrammed Chip?

Post by Sunyecz22 »

I received the minipov4 kit as a gift and assembled it yesterday. After connecting the battery power supply and turning on the switch, none of the lights turned on. I tried various methods of troubleshooting including:
1) Checking the batteries voltage and ensuring that the board was getting the correct voltage
2) Checking that pin 7 (Vcc) of the atmega328 chip was getting the correct voltage, which it was.
3) Ensuring that I did not have any solder bridging
4) Resoldering some pads that I thought may have not been adequately soldered

After that troubleshooting, I suspected that maybe I just needed to upload the miniPOVtest image via processing, however I ran into other issues including:
1) Computer not recognizing my device despite downloading the adafruit drivers (per the instructions)
2) LEDs still not turning on after running the MiniPOV_ImageConverter sketch on Processing (version 2.2.1)

Other users have ran into similar issues as me and it appears that a recent batch of miniPOV4 projects were sent with an unprogrammed atmega328 chip. I suspect this is my issue as well. If possible, could you provide feedback and/or send a new properly programmed chip? Thank you.

I'm having the exact same problem. I have tested the LED circuits individually by removing the processor and placing the right voltages on the LED pins. All power and grounds are correct and low resistance to the ATMEGA. No oscillation of the resonator, but all connections to all parts have been ohmed out and tested for shorts. Could I also have a nonprogrammed part?

@neileuliano We took care of you in your other thread here:

@Sunyecz22 Let's also just send you a new ATMEGA chip. I'll let support know. You can also link to this post if they ask.

I'm also having the same issue (none of the LEDs light on power-up). I followed the steps that @Sunyecz22 posted, with the same results. Do I also have an un-programmed chip?

I ordered January 2nd 2020 and just built the kit. I can provide the order number, if it helps.

@Sunyecz22, @neileuliano:
Did a new chip solve your problems?

And lastly, here is my soldering work:
